I have found working strictly with donated items to be quite the challenge. There’s just not an array of supplies to be had. So, it’s a good thing I’ve got a stash I can pull from if need be!
Using a donated wreath, jewelry, flowers and beads along with ribbon, lace, buttons and a little scrap of rust from my own collection, I was able to come up with this creation.
I love this glass leaf and the addition of the pearl earring.
Just a wee bit o’ rust to finish it off.
The topiary was a hanging ball made of dried rose buds. I snipped off the frayed ribbon and stuck the ball to the top of a broken finial that I painted pink (why pink? It was one of the donated paint colors.) and then touched up with some antiquing paint. I filled the terra cotta pot with some donated floral foam and added some moss to cover the foam. The polka dot ribbon adds a nice spring touch to it.
Now, I’ll be completely honest. This was actually the second attempt at the topiary. The first pot I painted bright pink (again, donated), crackled it and painted over that with a patina wash. It didn’t look so good. So I tried painting white over the patina. Then I dropped and broke the pot.
I like this version much better, anyways.
